Privacy Policy

This policy describes what personally identifiable information (PII) we collect about you, how that data is used, how long that data is retained, and who we share it with when you visit our website.

Personally identifiable information (PII) is any data that can be used to identify you as an individual, or a particular electronic device used to access our website.

Effective Date

This privacy policy is effective as of: August 29, 2018

Changes to This Privacy Policy

Changes to this privacy policy will be announced via a notification dialog (also known as a modal) that will appear at the bottom of your screen when you visit our website.

What Personal Data We Collect, Why We Collect It, What We Do With It, and How Long We Retain It

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

User Account

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

If you use a contact form on our website to send us an email, we will collect your email address and name in order to respond to you. This data, and any other personal data you choose to share with us in the text of your email, will be retained indefinitely.

IP Address

When you navigate to our website by clicking on a search engine result, or typing our web address in the navigation bar, your browser automatically transmits your IP address to our server. This allows us to load the requested web pages on your device, and allows you to post comments, upload files, and send us messages via contact forms. Your IP address will be retained indefinitely.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to help us provide you with better quality, more relevant content and experiences.

When you visit our website, we set a cookie that consists of two randomly generated 32-bit numbers. The URL (uniform resource locater) and title of each page you visit is sent to Google along with an anonymized IP string.

This cookie expires after two years. Each time you visit our site the cookie is renewed, so if you visit regularly the cookie may last indefinitely.

What Automated Decision Making and/or Profiling We Do With User Data

We use IP addresses to automatically block access to individuals and/or groups who have violated our Terms of Service.

Note that this does not include data collected by other sites via embedded content that you interact with. Please read the section “Third Parties That May Collect Data Through Our Site” for more information.
